Karim Adeyemi Foundation Announces Second Edition of International Day of Sports for Development and Peace Essay Competition

Ibadan, Oyo State – Karim Adeyemi Foundation (KAF) is proud to announce the second edition of its annual International Day of Sports for Development and Peace (IDSDP) Essay Competition. The competition is open to public secondary school students in Oyo State and aims to promote the values of sportsmanship, education, and peacebuilding among young people.

The theme of this year’s competition is “Sports for the Promotion of Peaceful and Inclusive Societies,” inspired by the recent African Cup of Nations football tournament. The essay topic asks participants to discuss how sports can help bring peace, togetherness, and acceptance in diverse places like Nigeria.

The competition consists of two phases: Expression of Interest (EOI) and Finals. Interested participants are invited to submit their EOI entries by showcasing their perspectives on sports and national pride through any creative expression of choice, such as writing, visual art, audio recordings, and more. The deadline for EOI submissions is March 25, 2024.

A panel of judges will select finalists based on criteria such as originality, creativity, clarity, and relevance to the essay topic. The selected finalists will then proceed to the final phase, where they will write an essay within a specified word limit and time frame. The top three essay entries will be selected by judges using the same criteria.

The prizes for the competition include a cash prize of one hundred thousand Naira for the top three winners, along with accounts opened with KAF’s official bank partner to facilitate the transfer of their winnings. Additionally, winners will receive commemorative plaques honouring their achievements.

The Award Ceremony will take place on May 23, 2024, at KAF premises, where winners will be recognized and celebrated in the presence of participants, judges, stakeholders, and sponsors.

Speaking about the competition, OlaOlu Adedayo, The Chief Operating Officer at KAF, said, “We are excited to host the second edition of the IDSDP Essay Competition and look forward to receiving entries from talented young people across Oyo State. Through this initiative, we aim to promote the values of sportsmanship, education, and peacebuilding, which align with our foundation’s mission of empowering young people to become active citizens and leaders in their communities.”

Interested participants can submit their entries through multiple channels, including online submission via the designated email or the IDSDP page on the KAF website, through their English teacher or directly to the KAF office in Ibadan.Â
