Karim Adeyemi Foundation, known for its impactful interventions has commenced a significant project to address a critical gap in pediatric healthcare in Oyo State.
Following a consultation with the Oyo State Hospital Management Board on January 21, 2025, the Foundation secured approval from the state government to construct an emergency children’s ward at the Adeoyo State Maternity Teaching Hospital, Yemetu, Ibadan.
This hospital, which is the state’s pioneering maternity institution, plays a vital role in providing care for children across the region.

Addressing a Crucial Gap in Pediatric Healthcare
Oyo State faces a shortage of dedicated emergency facilities for children, often leading to delays in treatment and increased risks to young patients in critical conditions and while the state boasts of numerous private secondary healthcare centres which can handle some of these cases, the public sector depicts a significant gap.
This new ward aims to bridge that gap by creating a state-of-the-art facility designed specifically for pediatric emergencies.
Once completed, it will provide swift and specialized care for children in need before they’re moved to the main children’s ward after they’re stable, thereby reducing morbidity and mortality rates in the state.

Prior to this intervention by Karim Adeyemi Foundation, the Hospital does not have its own Emergency Children Ward.
A Milestone in the Foundation’s Health Interventions
The President of the Karim Adeyemi Foundation, Mr. Abiodun Adeyemi, visited the allocated site for the ward’s construction on Sunday, May 30, 2025.
Accompanying him were key members of the Foundation, including Barr. Olamide Idowu, the project lead; Sir Susco Adesope and Aanu Oluyide, the Executive Secretary of the Foundation.
Present also at the site visitation were representatives of the construction team. The foundation aims to complete the project in time for its official opening by Karim Adeyemi during his next visit to Nigeria.
This initiative marks the Foundation’s first direct project in healthcare, demonstrating its commitment to addressing urgent and underserved needs in the community with its broader mission to improve lives through targeted and sustainable developmental Intervention.
Empowering Communities, One Project at a Time
The construction of the emergency children’s ward is yet another testament to KAF’s holistic approach to empowerment.
The hospital, situated in Ibadan North Local Government, is one of the two local governments that represents the foundation’s community development projects. In both Ibadan North and North East, the foundation boasts of having touched thousands of lives in 5 communities through its WASH projects.
Therefore, this Emergency Children’s Ward will not only enhance healthcare delivery in Oyo State but also serve as a beacon of hope for families and children in these communities and beyond.
