Preserving Heritage & Empowering Education: Karim Adeyemi Ensures Free Access to “Know Oyo State” for Students

In a fast-changing world, understanding one’s roots is essential for fostering a sense of identity, pride, and belonging. This belief forms the foundation of an extraordinary move by Karim Adeyemi, Borussia Dortmund forward and founder of the Karim Adeyemi Foundation, to make another impactful contribution to education in Oyo State.

Through his foundation, Karim Adeyemi has made available 100’s of copies of “Know Oyo State”, a comprehensive book exploring the state’s history, culture, and composition to public secondary schools across the region. This gesture ensures that students in Oyo State’s public schools will have free access to this invaluable resource, empowering them with the knowledge of their roots and inspiring pride in their heritage.

The Vision

Karim Adeyemi’s ties to Ibadan run deep, rooted in the legacy of his late grandfather father, Chief Capt. R.A. Anifowose, and his father Abiodun Adeyemi both lovers of education and community development. Karim has always been passionate about giving back to his father’s homeland, and this effort is another of many testaments to his commitment.

Speaking through the foundation, Karim explained,
““Education has always been a key for me, and I am interested in improving educational access and opportunities, especially in Ibadan, where my Dad is from. My goal has always been to help kids and young people not only to go to school but also get familiar with their roots, enjoy their lives and be happy through activities like football”.

About Know Oyo State

Written by Prince Dọtun Oyelade, Know Oyo State offers a rich tapestry of Oyo State’s past and present, shedding light on its culture, history, and achievements. The book is designed to be a resource not just for students, but for anyone seeking to understand the essence of Oyo State. With Karim Adeyemi Foundation’s support, this knowledge will now reach thousands of young learners across the state. By providing these books to public secondary schools, the Foundation is bridging the gap in access to cultural education, ensuring that no child is left behind in learning about their roots.

A Step Toward Empowerment

For Karim, this project is about more than distributing books; it’s about planting seeds of knowledge, identity, and pride. The foundation believes that understanding one’s heritage can spark a sense of purpose, equipping young people with the tools to shape a better future for themselves and their communities.

Being born in Germany, there’s still a lot I need to know and I want to. Karim remarked. “This is my root. To ensure others benefit from this resource, my Dad and I will work to make copies of this book accessible to as many students in public schools across the state. My foundation will also get copies for our beneficiaries so they, too, can better understand and appreciate their heritage”.
