IDSDP Awards 2025: Celebrating Young Voices, Championing Change

In a powerful intersection of education, sport, and youth development, Karim Adeyemi Foundation (KAF) marked this year’s International Day of Sport for Development and Peace (IDSDP) with the third edition of its Annual Essay Competition and Awards Ceremony — a flagship event dedicated to amplifying young voices and promoting inclusion across Oyo State.

A Platform for Critical Thinking and Social Change

Kicking off in early March 2025, the IDSDP Essay Competition invited entries from students across 18 public secondary schools in Oyo State, encouraging them to explore the timely global theme: “Leveling the Playing Field: Sports for Social Inclusion.”

More than 150 students responded to the call, reflecting deeply on how sport can serve as a tool for equity, resilience, and peace. The final stage, hosted at the University of Ibadan Distance Learning Centre on Friday, April 5th, brought together the most compelling voices — young minds whose essays were shaped by both local realities and global aspirations.

“We believe in localizing global conversations,” said Abiodun Adeyemi, President of Karim Adeyemi Foundation. “This theme helped students think critically about their environment and imagine how sport and education can truly transform lives.”

The Grand Finale: Celebrating Young Changemakers

On May 23rd, 2025, the journey culminated in an inspiring Award Ceremony held in Ibadan, bringing together students, educators, development partners, and community leaders. The event was more than a celebration — it was a commitment to nurturing Nigeria’s next generation of leaders.

🏅 Top 3 Finalists (from Government College Ibadan, St. Louis Grammar School, and Celestial Church of Christ High School) were awarded full academic scholarships.

💰 7 other outstanding finalists received cash prizes, with gifts generously provided by SkillNG, one of our key partners in youth empowerment. (Though we missed a public display, their contribution was packed into winners’ gift bags, and will be highlighted in all media mentions.)

🏫 Participating schools, including Loyola College, Baptist Secondary School Oke Ado, Abadina College, Awotan Araromi Community High School, St. Theresa’s, Ode Aje Ajibola Aremo, and more, were honoured with certificates of recognition, alongside educational supplies provided by Polaris Bank.

Why It Matters: Real Impact, Real Results

This year’s event stood out not just for its numbers, but for its outcomes. A shining example is Bright Adeyemo, one of the finalists in the 2024 competition who was honored during this year’s ceremony for scoring 319 in her UTME — a powerful testament to the long-term impact of recognizing potential early.

Bright, who aspires to study Computer Engineering, is one of many stories that validate KAF’s investment in education and talent development. “It’s not just about prizes,” Mr. Adeyemi noted. “It’s about changing trajectories.”

The International Day of Sport for Development and Peace (IDSDP) — recognized globally every April 6th — highlights the role of sport as a catalyst for peace and inclusion. Through initiatives like this competition, KAF localizes these ideals, bridging gaps between global values and community action.

Looking Ahead: Building a Future through Sport and Education

As Karim Adeyemi Foundation looks to future editions, the vision remains clear: create inclusive platforms where youth can think, speak, and lead with purpose.
