Building Capacity for Safety: Karim Adeyemi Foundation Collaborates with Federal Fire Service (Oyo State Command)

As part of its ongoing commitment to Community Safety and Development, Karim Adeyemi Foundation (KAF) welcomed members of the Federal Fire Service, Oyo State Command for a comprehensive training on fire prevention and management. Representing the FFS, Oyo State Command, Superintendent of Fire, Ajakaye Olayinka and Famoofo Olakunle attested that the training is part of the foundation’s continuous effort to enhance staff development and workplace safety.

MODE OF TRAINING – THEORY AND PRACTICAL

The interactive session focused on both organizational and domestic fire safety. The team was introduced to critical topics such as types and causes of fire outbreaks, gas fire, electrical fire safety, and appropriate methods of extinguishing different classes of fire, with practical demonstrations bringing the teachings and lessons to life thereby equipping staff with the knowledge and confidence to manage real-world emergencies effectively.

The participants were not only passive learners but active in the course of training. Team members of Karim Adeyemi Foundation such as Barr. Olamide Idowu, Zakary Lawal, Aanu Oluyide, and Adekunle Adewumi joined their colleagues in demonstrating these newly acquired skills, ensuring that the lessons depicted practical readiness.

In a hands-on exercise, KAF staff members were asked to demonstrate how to use Dry Chemical Powder (DCP) to quench fire occurring outdoors, a practical demonstration of evacuating a burning building was also done. In addition, the foundation promised to continue periodic refresher courses with the Fire Service to sustain and deepen their capacity in fire safety management.

Karim Adeyemi Foundation Broader Safety Agenda

This initiative complements KAF’s broader safety agenda. Just recently, the foundation partnered with the Nigerian Red Cross Society and the State Universal Basic Education Board (OYO SUBEB) to provide First Aid and CPR training to 50 primary schools across six local government areas in Ibadan. By linking fire safety with broader first aid education, Karim Adeyemi Foundation continues to position itself at the forefront of life-saving interventions for both its team and the wider community.

These efforts reaffirms its mission of empowerment, ensuring that its staff and the communities it serves are not only inspired to dream but also equipped to live and work safely.

Long-term Implication and Why This Matters

Long-term benefit of this can create a ripple effect, such that when individuals are equipped with life-saving skills, they become agents of safety in their circles of influence. In communities where fire outbreaks, gas explosions, and electrical mishaps remain prevalent, such preparedness can mean the difference between loss and survival. Together, these interventions reflect the foundation’s belief that safety and education are inseparable pillars of sustainable development.
