“Adeyemi FC Advances to Next Round of Oyo Federation Cup with 2-0 Win Over Achievers F.A”
Adeyemi Football Club of Ibadan advanced to the next round of the Oyo State Federation Cup by defeating Achievers Football Academy with a score of 2-0 in a clash held at Olubadan Stadium, Ibadan on Tuesday, March 5, 2024.
Seven minutes into the game, Achievers F.A’s winger launched a deadly long cross, but Olayiwola Habeeb intercepted and cleared it for a corner.
Despite the opponent’s attacking threat, Victor Okeleke aimed to set up an early goal with a perfect free kick, but it was blocked by the opponent’s defender.
Abiodun Olawoye, Ogunde Timothy, and Ajekiigbe Sunday mounted counterattacks on the opponent’s backline in a bid to score an early goal.
After a series of attacking threats, Victor Okeleke finally eased the pressure on his side by connecting with Ajekiigbe Sunday’s brilliant pass to put Adeyemi FC ahead in the 20th minute.
With one goal down, Achievers F.A aggressively tried to level the game, but Odejobi Olalekan thwarted
all their efforts. Olawoye Abiodun attempted to extend the lead, but the opponent’s goalkeeper quickly reacted.
Minutes before the end of the first half, Omole Adebusuyi and Ogunbode Timothy attempted dangerous free kicks and strikes, but they all went wide.
In the second half, Achievers Football Academy stepped up their attacking threat, but Odejobi Olalekan and Olayiwola Habeeb remained alert to curb their efforts. Despite Muftau Faruq and Ogundele Oluwadara’s efforts on the wings, Achievers’ wingers found it difficult to penetrate.
In the 49th minute, the opponent’s goalie and one of his defenders made errors which resulted in a penalty. Ali Ayuba wasted no time and doubled the lead for Adeyemi FC.
After the second goal, Achievers Football Academy attacked aggressively with dangerous crosses from the left and right flanks, but Quadri Ibrahim denied their efforts.
Muftau Faruq and Odejobi Olalekan cleared out some dangerous crosses from the opponent until the last minutes of the game.
