International Day of Sports for Development and Peace (IDSDP) Essay Competition

Join Karim Adeyemi Foundation's essay competition in Oyo State
and explore how sports foster peace and inclusivity, inspired by the African Cup of Nations 2024.

Theme and Essay Topic

This year's global theme for the IDSDP celebration is "Sports for the Promotion of Peaceful and Inclusive Societies."

 Inspired by the recent African Cup of Nations football tournament, the essay topic is:

 

"Using the recent African Cup of Nations football tournament as an example, discuss how sports can help bring peace, togetherness, and acceptance in diverse places like Nigeria."

Guidelines and Eligibility Criteria

Submission

Online: Email or IDSDP webpage on KAF website.
School: Submit through your English teacher.
In-Person: KAF office in Ibadan.

Students

The competition is open to public secondary school students in Oyo State

Essay Competition

The final phase will be held at a designated Computer-Based Testing centre in Ibadan on the International Day of Sports for Development and Peace.

Phases

The competition will consist of two phases: Expression of Interest (EOI) and Finals.

Before Submission

Each EOI entry in any format must include the participant's full name, school, and contact details.

EOI Phase

Express yourself! Submit an EOI showcasing your view on sports and national pride. Be creative: write, draw, record – it's up to you!

After EOI

After expressing your interest, finalists will tackle the essay topic with a word limit and timeframe.

Logistics

Finalists will receive a reimbursement for their transportation to the CBT centre.

Thank you for participating in the first phase of the KAF Annual Essay Competition. We received dozens of entries from public secondary schools all over Oyo State. Our judges have screened all entries and have made selection of qualified students who made it to the next phase.

Selection Process

We are committed to maintaining transparency and impartiality throughout the evaluation process.

Stage 1

A panel of judges will assess submissions for expressions of interest based on criteria such as originality, creativity, clarity, and relevance to the essay topic

Stage 2

The selected finalists will qualify for the final phase.

Stage 3

The top three essay entries in the final phase will be selected by judges using the same criteria.

Top 10 Entries would be featured on our social media for promoting peace through sports

Top 3 Winners get ₦100,000 Cash Prize in created Bank Account for Easy Transfer.

Winners will also receive commemorative plaques honouring their accomplishments.

How do I submit my entry for the competition?

Entries can be submitted through multiple channels: online via the designated email or the IDSDP page on KAF website, or through your English teacher or directly to the KAF office in Ibadan.

Can I submit my entry in a language other than English?

For the expression of interest phase, there is no restriction on creative freedom but for the essay writing, all entries must be submitted in English.

Will participants receive any certificates or recognition for participating?

Yes, all participants advancing to the final stage will receive a certificate of participation.

Will travel expenses be covered for finalists attending the final phase in Ibadan?

Yes, finalists will be reimbursed for their transportation to the designated Computer-Based Testing centre in Ibadan.

No, there is no registration fee. Participation in the competition is free.

How will finalists be notified about their selection?

Finalists will be notified of their selection via email, phone call or text. You can also keep an eye on the IDSDP page on KAF website and our social platforms.

Can I submit multiple entries for the competition?

Yes, participants can submit multiple entries for the Expression of Interest to boost their chances of being selected for the final stage.

Are there any specific formatting guidelines for the essays?

Formatting guidelines will be provided and explained along with the essay topic at the finals.
