Ibadan, Nigeria- 9th March 2024 – Karim Adeyemi Foundation strongly condemns the recent spate of school abductions in northern Nigeria, which have resulted in the kidnapping of innocent students and teachers.
On Thursday, March 7, 2024, armed men attacked a school in Kuriga, Kaduna State, abducting approximately 287 students and their teachers. Additionally, on March 9, 2024, 15 Tsangaya (Quranic) students were kidnapped in the Gidan Bakuso area of Gada, Sokoto State.
These heinous acts not only endanger the lives and well-being of the abducted individuals but also undermine the fundamental right to education. Karim Adeyemi Foundation stands in solidarity with the affected families and communities during this challenging time.
We call upon the Nigerian government to prioritise the safe release of the abducted children and teachers. We urge authorities to take decisive action and hold those responsible for these despicable acts accountable.
Furthermore, we reiterate our commitment to supporting initiatives that promote education and protect vulnerable communities. Education is a fundamental human right and a cornerstone for sustainable development. We believe the government can work to create a safe and conducive environment for learning in Nigeria.
We extend our deepest sympathies to the affected individuals and families while lending our voice towards advocacy and strategic activities being put in place to ensure the safe return of abducted students and teachers.
